Word #4 – “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me.” Matthew 27:46
The sky is darkening and the crowd is growing restless. The energy of the bewildered disciples is now waning. The pandemonium of the pagan worldlings has now been turned up to a high level.
His clothing has been divided. Crucifixion was taking its toll on the weakened body of the Creator who had enrobed Himself in flesh. The insults, the mocking, the eerie darkness and the grueling physical fatigue…not to mention the spiritual burden, were almost overwhelming.
It is in the midst of these circumstances that Jesus himself feels alone. Have you experienced this type of aloneness? Being in a large crowd with loud noise and still feeling desperation of spirit in your own heart. Feeling like God was not there when you needed Him the most. This is where Jesus was. He felt a sense of aloneness.
The feeling was strong enough that He cried out to God in prayer and we should do likewise. If we’ll do this, we’ll be reassured of God’s presence and find strength to go on with victory in life’s journey. To neglect this prayer will only perpetuate our loneliness and frustrate our ability of moving forward in a way that pleases God and meets our need. Be a seeker after the face of God when life doesn’t make sense!
