“Save me, O God, for the waters have threatened my life. I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me. I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; My eyes fail while I wait for my God. And do not hide Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress; answer me quickly. Oh, draw near to my soul and redeem it.” Psalm 69:1-3, 17
This is a passage of Scripture I read to my mother-in-law in her final moments on this earth. As she suffered those last hours, she mumbled, “Help me Lord!” Feeling so helpless, all I could do was to comfort her with prayer, encouragement, and Scripture.
As I read the portion of Scripture that said, “my eyes fail while I wait for my God,” it perfectly described her condition as her eyes were closed and she was waiting patiently to be welcomed into the arms of her heavenly Father.
My husband and I had the privilege to be by her side when she took her last earthly breath. Because she was a believer, we knew her earthly body was transformed to a wonderful, beautiful, restored heavenly body and she would be with her Savior for eternity. What a picture of revival!
My prayer for everyone reading this devotional is that you, too, are waiting patiently to be welcomed into the arms of your heavenly Father and are using your time intentionally on this earth to advance God’s Kingdom and spread the Gospel.
If you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please consider Him today. The Good News is that, according to the Scriptures, Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Because of His finished work on the cross and paying the full price for our sin, he offers salvation and eternal life.
To accept this free gift of salvation, simply pray a prayer something like this: “Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sins and that you raised Him from the dead. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Amen.”
“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your gift of salvation, a true picture of revival! Thank you we are not trapped in our earthly bodies for very long and that I can look forward to being in Your presence for eternity. Help me focus on the eternal perspective and be always mindful about spreading Your Good News. I love you Lord!
