He’s in the Boat

“As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.’ He was already in the boat, so they started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  But soon a fierce storm arose. High waves began to break into the boat until it was nearly full of water.” -Mark 4:35-37 NLT

Are there times when you listen to Jesus, and He takes you a new direction in life, only to find a trial of great size threatens to knock you off the course Jesus has set for you? The fury of the waves coming against you is too much to bear alone. You are swamped, having no control to stop the onslaught. In your situation, you find that you are frantic and anxious, so you cry out to Jesus saying, “Master, do you not care that I am perishing?”

He answers you by rebuking the dark, unsettling things coming at you. He speaks the words necessary to bring quiet and peace to your storm. Your circumstances calm down and a perfect peace replaces the anxiety that once surrounded you.

Then it dawns on you; and you ask yourself, “why was I so afraid?” You question “how had my sure, firm trust in my Savior waver, when ‘He was already in the boat’”?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess my unbelief when I am worrying and full of anxious thoughts when You are right beside me as my ever-present help in time of trouble. I believe that as I go through the deep waters and great trouble You will be with me. You will not let me drown. Thank You, that You understand my utter weakness! In the storms of life, I choose to seek You first! Increase my faith so that my soul sings it is well and that I trust in Jesus, the name which even the winds and waves obey! Amen
