Deep Devotion

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34

Where is your treasure? What is your treasure? Scripture tells us of a woman who extravagantly poured out her treasure in an offering to Jesus.

It goes like this. “While [Jesus] was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on [Jesus] head…Jesus said, ‘She has done a beautiful thing to me…She did what she could.’” Mark 14:3,6,8

Are we willing to go to such extremes to worship the Lord? An alabaster jar of ointment was very expensive in those days, a year’s wages. Just imagine a year’s salary or perhaps all that you own, poured into the worship of Jesus.

We need to check the motivation of our heart daily. Paul instructs his readers to live in order to please God (1 Thessalonians 4:1). The psalmist says, that our eyes are fixed on you O Sovereign Lord, because only you can give eternal joy. “Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” Colossians 3:23

Disciples of Jesus may our everyday be a day of advancing God’s kingdom that will result in treasures stored in heaven. I pray that as a chosen people we will walk as a people belonging to God declaring the praises of Him who called us out of darkness. I pray that we may be a people who do all that we can to worship Jesus with all that we have!

Prayer: “Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life.” Thank you Jesus! Amen.
