The Eternal Lamb

Read Exodus 12:1-28

“For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.” 1 Corinthians 5:7

“Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan, coming to John to be baptized by him” (Matthew 3:13). Seeing Jesus approaching, John the Baptist declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).

John the Baptist refers to Jesus as the Lamb of God. Why? Because as a Jewish prophet, he was tying Jesus back to the first Passover. John was revealing that Jesus would save all that were covered by His blood, just as the blood of the lambs saved the Israelites in Egypt.

God determined that Jesus, the ultimate and perfect Lamb, would be crucified on Passover! This is why Revelation 13:8 says, “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world,” and why Jesus said, “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be handed over for crucifixion” (Matthew 26:2).

Jesus’ last supper with His disciples was a Passover meal where He took the matzah and wine saying, “This is My body, which is being given for you; do this in remembrance of Me and this cup, which is poured out for you, is the new covenant in My blood. (Luke 22:19,20)

The Passover story told in Exodus 12 instructed the Israelites to apply the blood of the lamb to the doorposts of their homes and not to go outside the door of their home until morning. Likewise, it is not sufficient for us to just know that Messiah shed His blood and died for our sins. We must personally receive Him into our hearts, follow, and obey Him so that His blood covers our individual lives.

Although it was 2,000 years ago that Jesus died on the Holy day of Passover, His blood is yet still alive today! The blood of the Holy Lamb of God is eternal! The blood of Jesus  has not lost its power, but rather continues to bring salvation and deliverance from darkness and sin to everyone that commits their lives to Him! Praise the Lord!

“And they overcame him [the devil] because of the blood of the Lamb.” Revelation 12:11

Passover is forever! Yeshua’s sacrifice has timeless impact and an eternal consequence.
