Not a Trail Blazer

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1-3.

For the past three weeks I have been studying the Book of Acts. Today I was really reflecting during my time with the Lord on how Paul was perfectly and uniquely qualified for the task the was laid before him. God made this task uniquely for Paul, a Roman citizen and a Pharisee. When you look at Paul’s life and remember his testimony of coming to Christ, who else could have accomplished what Paul had? God knew exactly what He was doing when He sent Paul.

God knew exactly what He was doing when He made us as well. Like Paul, we all have a unique story and testimony and God intends for us to use it to further God’s kingdom just as Paul did. He has uniquely equipped us for the work He has set before us.

We do not have to go out and be a trail blazer and create our own trail. Rather we just need to follow the Lord. Often God’s trail is not at all how we would design our own trail. Paul is an excellent example in that. Paul, the Pharisee, makes sense to witness to the Jews, yet he was sent to the gentiles, kings, governors, and later even Caesar himself. Is this the path Paul would have laid out for himself? I don’t know, but I know God did it for him. Paul just chose to follow it.

We must do the same. We must follow the trail uniquely made for us, but we must be sure not to miss it. To do this we must fight to keep our heart and eyes fixed on Jesus. He is the author and perfecter of our faith. If we do we can follow Him. For He is the trail blazer. Our job is just to decide whether or not we will take it. If you do, it will not be easy, but it will come with amazing rewards. It will be a life worth living.

Who knows what God has in store for you and your trail? Only you can find it. Follow Him and see.
