Let Praise Be Our Battle Cry

Psalm 66:17 “For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke.”

Psalm 149:6 “Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands.”

“War room” was made a household term in 2015 when the movie War Room hit the theaters and became a box office success. Miss Clara, a lead character, is dedicated to prayer and has a special closet designated as a war room, because as she puts it, “In order to stand up and fight the enemy, you need to get on your knees and pray.”

Recently, I got a call to the war room when a friend asked for help to keep her shield of faith up. Hmm…sounds like spiritual warfare. So, I decided to “stand up and fight the enemy” on my knees at that moment. I grabbed the Bible and flipped to Psalm 70.

“Make haste, O God, to deliver me! Make haste to help me, O Lord. May those who seek my life be ashamed and confused; may those who desire my harm be driven back and humiliated. May they turn back as a consequence of their shame who say ‘Aha! Aha!’ May all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; and may those who love Your salvation continually say, ‘God be magnified!'”

Using the words of the Psalm, my prayer for my friend formed, and in faith I believed the Lord was powerful to deliver and turn back her spiritual foe. As I continued to pray, my heart kept hanging on the verse, “God be magnified.” It was such a powerful place to be that I really did not want to leave, so I persisted in prayer for a time.

We know the enemy is persistent, and our prayers should be too, but I couldn’t stay in the war room with the schedule that I had to keep. Now what? I pondered, “Had I prayed long enough?”

That’s when the still small voice of the Spirit said, “Go and remember the words ‘God be magnified.’ Bring them with you into your home, workplace, and marketplace. They are battle words, so keep praying them, because someone else needs them too.”

So, I set out to watch and pray. I intentionally kept my ears attentive to the Spirit’s directing of my thoughts and words as my heart was praying, “God be magnified!”

Prayer: Father, may every believer walk throughout their day fitted with the full armor of God, praise and prayer. As we praise and exult Your Name, Lord, the foe is silenced. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
